what size are the newborn clothing for?
im 34 weeks pregnant and i bought a set of onesies, and 2 outfits that are for newborns. not including other little shirts that i was given for the baby. so anywho people tell me not to buy newborn clothes because the baby hardly wears them. and grows out of it fast. my question is how much does a baby have to weigh to fit into newborn clothes???

Check the label on the clothes.

I would guess under 8lbs. My son weighed 8lbs 6oz when he was and born and only wore the newborn stuff for about a week. And even then it just fit there wasn’t much wiggle room. They grow so very fast for the first year that it’s always better to have stuff that’s one size bigger so they can wear it a few more times. Then after the first year it seems to level off.

I think 5-10lbs about there. My baby was in them for 6 weeks. She was born 6lbs 6oz though. Weight really doesn’t matter, it more so how the baby is built and height. Don’t buy too many, get a few onsie, a few sleep and play Jammies, and one or two cute outfits, and a couple of hats (I don’t care what people say, I have always loved dressing up my baby to show her off).

depending on the maker 5-8lbs is normal. Just buy the next size up 0-3 mos. They will last a fair while unless you have a BIG baby from birth.

your baby will probably wear newborn clothse for the first week or two and will then be to big for them. most newborn clothes is for 6-10pound children. i would suggest getting some 0-3 or 0-6month clothes. it will be fine if they are to big your baby will grow into them in no time! that way you will be able to get more use out of them that way!

My baby was 8 lbs 20 inches at birth..so he wasn’t small. He wore the newborn size for about 2 months. We even had to get a few preemie shirts…

Typically 0-3 is 8-12 pounds if memory serves me correctly. You can verify via Google. I think we needed newborn sizes for a couple of weeks, but your kid can totally survive wearing slightly large clothes if you want to skip that size.

I would say 5-10lbs. It depends how small or big your child is. Buy more 0-3 months.

The label sometimes says. Lots of them say 5-8 lb. My baby was 8 lb. 13 oz. at birth and she wore newborn clothes for 3-4 weeks.

Newborn clothing does fit slightly bigger than preemie clothing. The preemie clothing says up to 5 lbs, but fits up to 21″ in length. The newborn goes to 8lbs, most people buy the 0-3 months because it goes up to 12 lbs (8-12).
My preemie baby 4lbs, born at 34 weeks, 20″ wore preemie clothing for 2 weeks, newborn for 1.5 months after that.
What I suggest most, is the carter’s gown’s, will fit till 4-5 months old, and 0-3 onesies. These are more cost effective. Even if you give birth to a two month old like my third son 8lbs 5 oz, 22″ born at 36 weeks.

People told me not to buy newborn stuff for my baby before she was born (7lb 2 1/2oz) so I didn’t. But the 0-3mths clothes were massive on her. I went out and bought lovely outfits and baby grows which lasted her for nearly 8 weeks. She is just 3mths now and still wearing some 0-3mths clothes and believe me she is not a small baby now. I think it depends on where you buy the clothes and the make of them.
And also you can never have enough clothes for a baby!!!!!!

Most babies will wear newborn for a few days, if not a couple weeks. My son was over 8.5 pounds when he was born, yet he went home in a newborn outfit. He wore newborn for a week or two. Newborn says it is for up to 7 pounds, but it’s really based more on length, I would say. Take a newborn outfit and take a 0-3 month outfit just to be safe.
